DISCUSSION

The City received a request from Stinger Bridge and Iron for annexation of property located immediately South and West, of their existing steel and concrete girder fabrication yard on the east side of Highway 87.  City staff recorded a blank annexation petition with the Pinal County Recorder's office on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 and the Arizona Revised Statutes requires that a public hearing be held on the annexation in the last ten days of a thirty day waiting period from the date the petition was filed.  There are four property owners listed in this annexation.  Signatures can be collected after October 12, 2018, which is when the required 30-day waiting period expires.  The infrastructure and services plan and annexation ordinance could be considered as early as the November 13, 2018 City Council meeting.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

Annexation of the property will bring in the rest of the facility located west of Highway 87.  The City currently services much of the Stinger Bridge and Iron property and adding the expanded property to the current City limits is the correct action to take.

D.S. Director Lopez advised this was a public hearing to receive comments on a proposed annexation known as the "Tucker (Stinger) Annexation". He advised that the portion of land consisted of 12.5 acres, more or less, and, included the Stinger Bridge & Iron office building location; that the blank petition was recorded to begin the 30-day waiting period; that four (4) property owners are within the proposed annexation; and, again reiterated that this was a public hearing only and that the annexation would come back before Council at a later date. Mayor Thompson opened the public hearing for comments. There being no comments by the public or Council, Mayor Thompson closed the public hearing at 7:09 p.m.
